Crystal Palace have revived their interest in Lyon’s Ruben Kluivert as they seek a central defender before the end of the transfer window.
L’Equipe report that Crystal Palace have once again targeted the 25-year-old after trying to sign him in the January transfer window.
Defender wanted
Crystal Palace are keen to add at least one central defender to their squad after selling Maxence Lacroix to Chelsea. They also lost Chadi Riad to injury in the 2-0 defeat to Everton last weekend.
The Eagles had targeted a deal for Club Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez. He was in London on Friday ready to seal his move. But that was cancelled following a failed medical, with the defender suffering from a metatarsal fracture.
Since that point, Crystal Palace have been linked with various alternative options. Now it seems they’ve revived their interest in a January target.
€20m needed
L’Equipe report that talks are on for Lyon defender Ruben Kluivert. The French side are open to a sale, should they receive a bid of around €20m.
In fact, they have left Kluivert out of the squad for the clash with Le Havre this evening because he could move to Crystal Palace in the coming days.
Negotiations reportedly accelerated on Friday due to Joel Ordóñez’s failed medical. Crystal Palace quicky turned their attention to the 25-year-old Lyon defender at that point.
A formal bid has not yet been made. But an offer of an offer of €20m could be in the pipeline. Kluivert would be free to travel to London quickly if it does.
There is another Premier League side in the mix – and a European club – both of whom have also sounded out the player’s representatives in the last few hours. But it is Crystal Palace who L’Equipe name specifically and who, for now, appear to be at the front of the queue.
