Monaco have renewed their interest in Glasgow Rangers winger Djeidi Gassama after exploring a deal in the January transfer window.
Foot Mercato report that six months on from their original efforts, Monaco have not forgotten the Rangers winger.
The Ligue 1 side are now back in the mix for the 22-year-old winger, who also has interest in Serie A.
Monaco interest revived
Sport Witness covered reports this week explaining that Monza and Parma had both made moves for Djeidi Gassama before the end of the window.
Rangers rejected these bids, valued at €7m. The belief is that those in charge at Ibrox are holding out for a higher fee before sanctioning an exit.
Monaco have now made their own moves and know where Rangers stand. The Scottish club want at least €10m for the Mauritania international. They have made it clear that they are open to a sale but have no intention of selling the winger ‘at a bargain price’.
Gassama is under contract until 2029 so there is no pressure for Rangers to sell at this point. It seems they want to ensure that they get a price they consider fair before sanctioning an exit.
Rangers want more
Djeidi Gassama cost Rangers €2.4m to sign from Sheffield Wednesday a year ago. He has since managed ten goals and seven assists in 62 games for Rangers.
His spell in Scotland followed a two-year spell at Sheffield Wednesday where he managed 12 goals and four assists in 84 games.
A product of PSG’s youth academy, where he managed 23 goals and nine assists in 33 games for the U19 side, it seems than Rangers rate him highly. Or, at least, highly enough to consider €7m as too low a valuation.
It now remains to be seen if Monaco are willing to match the €10m demand after reviving their interest in the winger.
