RB Leipzig are on the verge of a deal for Chelsea striker Marc Guiu, who has been a target since 2024.
BILD report that the striker has been a ‘topic of internal discussion’ for two years, and now the German side are set to finally get their man.
The newspaper backs up reports that Leipzig are on the verge of a deal with Chelsea for the 20-year-old striker. Reports elsewhere have indicated that deal is worth around €20m. The Bundesliga side have moved ahead of Napoli in the race for his signature.
Leipzig happy
BILD state that it is a transfer which suits Leipzig perfectly. For a start, Sporting Director Marcel Schäfer prefers to work quietly and do deals in the background. That’s something he’s managed here.
Furthermore, Guiu is a long-term target for the club. They already pursued the striker in 2024 and were very far along in negotiations for him.
However, the Spaniard opted to move from Barcelona to Chelsea instead. Leipzig see him as an ideal fit, though, as he is young, fast, tall and strong in the press. That’s why they’ve revived their interest now.
Contact was never lost and his name was even briefly discussed internally last season. Now the move has been made into a reality. A deal is in the final stages.
Chelsea misery
It will bring an end to a miserable spell at Stamford Bridge for the striker. He moved to Chelsea in 2024 but has only made 29 appearances for the club since then, totalling 1146 minutes.
He was supposed to spend last season on loan at Sunderland to gain experience. But that deal ended up lasting three games and 103 minutes when the Blues recalled him from the Stadium of Light after less than a month.
Now he’s set for a permanent move to Germany, where Leipzig are ready to welcome him after waiting two years for a potential deal.
