Newcastle United have stepped up their efforts to sign Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo towards the end of the summer window.
The Premier League side have been pursuing the forward in recent days and didn’t make further advances.
Lille rejected bids from Newcastle United
On August 24th, the Magpies offered €40m including bonuses, and that didn’t please the Ligue 1 side. A day later, Newcastle United were planning to offer €60m with bonuses.
Four days ago, we relayed news of Lille president Olivier Létang wanting €70m to let the Belgium international leave.
Despite the French club’s tough stance, Matthias Jaissle’s side haven’t given up on him.
On Thursday, Sport Witness covered claims from France explaining that Newcastle United continue to push for Matias Fernandez-Pardo. The French club are open to selling him for a fair price and if they can secure a suitable replacement.
Newcastle United make fresh attempt
Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report the Magpies are ‘close to an agreement with Lille for Matias Fernandez-Pardo’.
The Tyneside club’s officials have accelerated their efforts to get closer towards to the fee requested by Lille.
Online, Foot Mercato further adds Newcastle United are in advanced talks to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
The 21-year-old, who joined the Ligue 1 side from KAA Gent, for around €11.5m. He has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €35m. He has already expressed his desire to leave in this window.

There’s no mention of a figure, and earlier reports stated Olivier Létang wants €70m.
The Magpies, who wanted to sign him for €40m and €60m, seems to have given up and are getting closer to the fee requested by Lille. Aounda hasn’t specified about personal terms and that may not be an issue.
Last season, the attacker managed eight goals and seven assists from 41 matches.
