Mexico manager Rafael Márquez backs Club Tijuana’s Gilberto Mora for a big move amid claims of Liverpool tabling an offer.

The 17-year-old’s rapid development has caught the attention of Liverpool and several other clubs.

Mora made his first team debut in 2024 and has been a regular for Tijuana. To put it in context, the attacking midfielder played 3,740 minutes from 62 matches, managing 15 goals and three assists.

He will turn 18 years of age on October 14th, making him eligible to move to Europe. Liverpool have already taken concrete steps to secure his services.

Agent didn’t dismiss Liverpool offer claims

Two days ago, Sport Witness relayed news from Mexico of the Premier League side tabling a $50m [€47.3m] bid for Gilberto Mora. There were also suggestions he will agree terms with a European club once he turns 18.

The player’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, has refused to either confirm or deny these reports.

She said: “Please understand that I don’t comment on transfer rumours. I won’t say anything at all about the transfer of any player. Thank you very much for your understanding.”

His impressive performances for the club helped him make his debut for Mexico’s senior team over a year ago. The youngster has a goal and an assist from 13 matches. He scored his first goal for the national team in their friendly draw against Colombia in September.

NT manager encourages Mora for big move

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Raúl Jiménez backs his compatriot to play for any club.

Rafael Márquez joins the striker to back Gilberto Mora for a big move and ABC Noticias have relayed his comments. The outlet points out Andoni Iraola’s side, Real Madrid and Barcelona as his suitors.

“I think Gilberto has a lot of talent, and I think he can have a great future, if he manages it well,” he said.

“I think he could fit in with any team; he has the ability and, above all, the mentality to want to succeed. Wherever he goes, I’m sure he can have many opportunities and have a great career.”

This season, he managed five goals and an assist from seven matches. His contract runs down in 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €25m, a €15m jump since May.

Mora’s rise has resulted in growing interest. Therefore, Liverpool or his other suitors have to act quickly and make further advances to win the battle for his signature.
