Celtic were trying to sign Fares Ghedjemis over the past few months, but hope of a transfer is fading.

The attacker was key to Frosinone’s promotion to the Serie A last season. This had attracted the Hoops’ attention, who made an attempt to sign the Algerian in January. The bid was rejected by the player, who was keen on staying.

After he featured at the World Cup, attention around him grew. Celtic made another attempt to sign him but Frosinone who rejected that approach, as other clubs like Monaco and Rangers also made attempts for a deal.

Now, key developments have taken place around the winger.

New contract done

TuttoSport report negotiations over Ghedjemis’ new deal had been taking place for a while. But the renewal is now done, with the player tied down to the Serie A side until the summer of 2030.

Celtic tried to snatch Ghedjemis away from Frosinone several times in the summer. The same applies to Monaco, Besiktas and Rangers.

Frosinone held out, with their ownership change suggested as a key reason for the stance. The player was keen on an exit too, which is why he wasn’t called up for the first two Serie A games.

Now, things are much more settled. He is part of their squad once again, as Frosinone find themselves in the Serie A’s top six.

The Italian side are now expected to dictate terms over an exit, if suitors like Celtic step forward again. It is also seen as a sign of trust in the attacker, who will play regularly in the league soon.

Ghedjemis is slipping out of financial reach.
