The winger remains part of Gil Vicente’s U23 squad, having previously played for Alianza Lima back home. Yet his international career is already moving ahead of his club career.
Soyer has played 78 minutes across two senior appearances for Peru, despite still waiting for his first-team debut in Portugal.
Brentford were linked with the youngster during the summer, with a possible loan move discussed as part of their partnership with Gil Vicente. For now, though, his development continues in Portugal.
Gil Vicente manager opens door for Soyer
Portuguese newspaper Record has been following Soyer’s progress and recently explained why he could soon receive his first-team opportunity.
The youngster was close to joining Gil Vicente’s senior squad for pre-season preparations. However, an arm injury disrupted those plans.
Manager Luís Pinto has since explained that Soyer suffered an elbow injury during his third training session. That meant he missed an important part of the initial preparation.
He has now recovered and returned to the U23 side, where he continues to develop.
Pinto is pleased with the youngster’s progress, particularly after his latest international appearance against Canada.
“Soyer has already trained with us, and everyone here is happy that he’s an international,” the manager said.
“Every young player dreams of that. It’s a fantastic achievement.”
The Gil Vicente boss also highlighted the significance of Soyer earning international recognition under Peru manager Mano Menezes.
“He’s coached by someone with years and years of experience in football. That’s very important and a real endorsement.”
Pinto then made it clear that the winger could earn his chance.
“We’re keeping an eye on him. If he earns it, he’ll get opportunities to play.”
Development continues in Portugal
Soyer joined Gil Vicente from Alianza Lima in 2025. His career so far shows a youngster gradually building experience, with most of his football coming outside the senior game.
| Club / National team | Apps | Minutes | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gil Vicente U23 | 21 | 1,745 | 4 | 4 |
| Alianza Lima | 8 | 264 | 1 | 0 |
| Peru (senior) | 3 | 98 | 1 | 0 |
Pinto also pointed to other youngsters receiving opportunities at Gil Vicente. So that gives Soyer a clear target. The manager is willing to promote players from the youth ranks, provided they can contribute to the team.
For Brentford, the situation is worth following of course. His international appearances suggest Peru already see something in him. Now he needs to convince Pinto that he’s ready for senior club football too.
