Brentford’s partnership with Gil Vicente could soon lead to another move between the two clubs. Reports from Portugal claim the Premier League side are looking at young winger Bassco Soyer.
Soyer arrived at Gil Vicente from Peruvian side Alianza Lima in 2025 and spent the campaign with the club’s U23 side.
The winger quickly adapted to European football. He finished the season with 12 goals and one assist in 33 appearances at youth level. Consequently, those numbers helped establish him as one of the more promising young Peruvians currently playing abroad.
Could become a Premier League player soon
Despite those performances, Gil Vicente did not hand him a first-team opportunity during the season. So Brentford now appear to be weighing up whether the next stage of his development should come within their own system.
Record report the 19-year-old is being considered for Brentford’s development structure. This comes after he impressed during his first season in Portuguese football.
The potential move would come under the strategic partnership agreement signed by Brentford and Gil Vicente in 2025. The agreement was designed to strengthen cooperation between the clubs and create pathways for player development.
While there is no indication a transfer is advanced, the Portuguese newspaper presents Brentford as closely monitoring the player’s situation. This comes ahead of the summer window.
Record’s report also state Brentford are attentive to the youngster’s progress and could take advantage of the relationship between the clubs to bring him to England.
International recognition already secured
Bassco Soyer’s reputation extends beyond youth football. Despite being only 19 years old, he has already made his senior debut for Peru. He also found the net during his lone appearance for the national team.
That early international recognition has helped raise his profile, even if he remains relatively unknown to English fans.
The attacker’s contract at Gil Vicente runs until 2028. Meanwhile, Transfermarkt currently values him at €200,000 (£170,000).
Whether Brentford decide to move forward remains to be seen, but this is exactly the type of opportunity the partnership with Gil Vicente was designed to create. Rather than targeting established first-team players, the arrangement offers Brentford access to emerging talent. This means they can recruit players before their value rises significantly.
For Soyer, a move to west London would represent another major step in a career that has already taken him from Peru to Portugal and into the senior international picture before his 20th birthday.
