Ipswich Town‘s Kayne van Oevelen has been on loan at Valencia since August and several factors could favour him to become the La Liga side’s new No.1

The Premier League side signed the goalkeeper from FC Volendam in July and sent him on loan a month later.

He didn’t make an appearance for Ipswich Town while he’s waiting to make his debut for Valencia.

Carlos Corberán favoured Stole Dimitrievski ahead of the 23-year-old this season. On September 13th, Los Ches parted ways with the manager and Dimitrievski still started in next two matches.

The 32-year-old has kept two clean sheets and conceded 13 goals from seven matches.

Why Ipswich Town man’s situation could improve

Valencia appointed Javier Aguirre as Carlos Corberán’s successor during the international break.

The Mexican’s arrival could benefit Kayne van Oevelen and Thursday’s print edition of Las Provincias, a newspaper local to Valencia, explains it.

Ipswich Town weren’t willing to send the stopper back to the Eredivisie. Their plan was to find a club where he can fight for a place and wanted to sanction a loan with no purchase clause.

Valencia felt the Dutchman can raise the level of competition Stole Dimitrievski. That hasn’t happened yet, but things could start picking up for the former.

Conditions in Ipswich Town stopper’s favour

Kayne van Oevelen is a backup for Stole Dimitrievski, with Cristian Rivero as the third choice.

During the international break, the Ipswich Town man stayed back at Valencia and trained under Javier Aguirre’s orders. The new manager was ‘pleasantly surprised’ with his level.

Meanwhile, Dimitrievski started four matches for North Macedonia and returned to the club on Thursday. The national team lost all four, and he conceded 10 goals. This comes after he let in 13 for the club this season.

Although the Dutchman didn’t feature this season, Dimitrievski’s form has led to a debate on whether the manager should give Van Oevelen an opportunity.

The Ipswich Town owned player is in contention to make his debut against Tavernes on October 28th. Should he impress and the Macedonian’s form drops until then, Aguirre could make Van Oevelen his new No.1.

If that happens, Las Provincias states: ‘…it wouldn’t be surprising if Aguirre, seeking a complete overhaul of the team to avoid relegation, opted for a change in goal.’

Gary O’Neil’s side would want the stopper to enjoy regular minutes. If that isn’t possible at Mestalla, they could consider terminating his stay and sending him elsewhere on loan in January. The next three months could be crucial for the Ipswich Town man.
