Swansea City goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux has made quite an impression with Chile. So much so that Claudio Bravo believes he’s already earned the right to be their first-choice goalkeeper.
The 32-year-old started all three matches during Chile’s recent tour of North America, facing Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Chile had a mixed international break, but Vigouroux produced an excellent performance in their 2-0 victory over Mexico. He had a tougher time against Canada and the United States.
Still, his displays have clearly impressed one of the country’s greatest goalkeepers.
Claudio Bravo full of praise for Swansea goalkeeper
Former Manchester City and Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo singled out Vigouroux for his performances, as relayed by TVN in Chile.
“He’s a player who has already earned his place in the team through his performances, and it’s not easy to make an impact when results aren’t positive, when everything looks rather bleak,” Bravo said.
The former Chile captain, who won two Copa América titles with his country, was particularly impressed by Vigouroux’s composure.
“You can see leadership qualities in him. You get a sense of calm from his performances, which is the most important thing a goalkeeper needs to convey. His performances have been splendid.”
Bravo also highlighted the Swansea man’s ability to deal with different situations.
“He was called upon a lot with the ball at his feet, in aerial situations, and then the saves he made at different moments of the matches were vital. In some cases, they prevented you from coming home having suffered a heavy defeat.”
That’s quite an endorsement from a goalkeeper who made 150 appearances for Chile.
International recognition is good news for Swansea
The praise comes during a solid start to the season for Vigouroux at club level. He’s made nine appearances for Swansea City, conceding seven goals and keeping four clean sheets.
His international record is slightly less impressive statistically, although Chile’s recent struggles have certainly played a part.
| In 2026/27 | Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swansea City | 9 | 7 | 4 |
| Chile | 5 | 8 | 1 |
Vigouroux has been Chile’s starting goalkeeper under interim manager Nicolás Córdova, and he’s clearly making the most of that opportunity. So there’s something encouraging about seeing their goalkeeper receive this kind of recognition.
Chile have struggled collectively, leaving Vigouroux with plenty of work to do. His performances have still managed to stand out, especially in the eyes of one of the country’s greatest players.
For now, though, the Swansea City goalkeeper has certainly won over one very important voice in Chilean football.
