Gilberto Mora’s agent Rafaela Pimenta has refused to dismiss claims of Liverpool tabling an offer to sign the Club Tijuana star.
The 17-year-old’s rise and potential have seen him attract interest from numerous clubs across Europe, including Liverpool.
Mora is a product of the Mexican club’s academy and made his way into their first team in 2024. The attacking midfielder became Tijuana’s youngest ever debutant at 15 years, 10 months and five days.
He scored 15 goals and contributed three assists from 62 matches, and it includes five goals and an assist from seven matches this season.
Last June, Mora made his senior debut for Mexico. He played 13 matches so far, of which four were in the World Cup.
Liverpool’s offer after pursuing for months
In July, we relayed news of the Reds, Manchester United and Arsenal battling for Gilberto Mora. His future is likely to be in the Premier League.
Later that month, Sport Witness covered a report from Mexico explaining that Liverpool had made their first concrete approach.
On Tuesday, TUDN journalist David Faitelson stated Club Tijuana received a $50m [€43m] bid from Andoni Iraola’s side.
He said: “I’ve been told in Tijuana that they received, through Mora’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, an offer from an English club, in this case Liverpool.”
“It would be a historic figure, above $50m, for Xolos de Tijuana for Mora, who turns 18 next week.”
Agent responds to Liverpool offer claims
ESPN Mexico journalist León Lecanda also reported there’ll be an agreement for his sale next week and AS have relayed his comments.
“I can say that on October 14th, a historic agreement with a big European club for Mora is very likely to be announced, in exchange for an amount that will be the highest ever for a player going from Liga MX to a foreign club,” Lecanda explained.
The journalist makes no mention of the foreign club, but all indications are it’s Liverpool. The youngster will turn 18 years of age on October 14th. He will then be eligible to move to the UK or another European club.
Record in Mexico have contacted Rafaela Pimenta for an update on Gilberto Mora’s future.
When asked about David Faitelson’s report about Liverpool’s offer and Lecanda’s claim of an agreement on October 14th, she added: “Please understand that I don’t comment on transfer rumours. I won’t say anything at all about the transfer of any player. Thank you very much for your understanding.”
The agent didn’t dismiss the two journalists’ reports. It’s possible there could be further developments around Mora’s future in the next few days.
