Chelsea have been scouting Nico Guillén this season and Sevilla face the threat of the Premier League side snatching their talent.
The 18-year-old’s development and potential have already caught Chelsea’s attention. He came up through the ranks of the La Liga side’s youth system and made it to the first team squad in May.
Luis García left him as an unused substitute in two matches last season before handing him his debut this season.
In August, the midfielder started the 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano and came off the bench in their 3-1 win over Athletic Club Bilbao. García hasn’t picked him since then.
This has seen the youngster settle for minutes with Sevilla Atlético [reserves]. Guillén has two goals from three matches for them this season, and Chelsea are already looking at him.
‘Direct interest’ from Chelsea
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain that he has impressed Blues scouts. Chelsea officials watching him live is further backed up by Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, who makes it clear it’s their own information and share more updates.
Their title says ‘threat from the Premier League’ for the Andalusian club over losing Nico Guillén. Within the report, there’s mention of a ‘direct interest’ from Xabi Alonso’s side.
The Spain U19 international’s potential and performances are attracting the Blues, who have been scouting him. Their officials have travelled to Andalusia to watch the midfielder live and gather reports firsthand. They’ve been impressed by him.
He returned to the reserves temporarily to regain match fitness. Chelsea will continue to observe him closely when he returns to the first team.
In January, the Spanish club extended the player’s contract until 2029, and that includes a €20m release clause.
Chelsea can convince Sevilla
Xabi Alonso’s side have an easy route to signing him by activating his €20m release clause. There won’t be a problem for them to offer the player a salary much higher than what he’s currently earning.
The La Liga side are looking at Nico Guillén as an asset for both present and the future. Sevilla have been going through a difficult economic situation in recent years and can’t rule out accepting a fee slightly lower than €20m.
Chelsea have to convince Guillén through their financial and sporting project. The latter may be key considering the Blues have a recent history of signing youngsters and sending them out on loan.
