Tottenham Hotspur‘s Lucas Bergvall decided against leaving in the summer and committed his future to the Premier League side by signing an extension until 2031.
In February 2024, the north London club agreed a deal with Djurgårdens IF for Bergvall to arrive later that summer. He then agreed to a contract until 2029.
The Sweden international was a regular in his debut season at Tottenham, playing 45 matches and winning the Europa League.
Last season, he maintained his place under Thomas Frank while not enjoying regular minutes since Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival in March.
Tottenham’s big investment in summer
The Italian played a key role in helping his side avoid relegation. The English club backed Roberto De Zerbi in the summer by spending over €350m on new signings.
Tottenham Hotspur have also given new contracts to Ben Davies, Pedro Porro, Antonín Kinský, Micky van de Ven and Lucas Bergvall.
Spurs have been working on the latter’s renewal for a long time. In April 2025, Sport Witness covered a report from Sweden about their negotiations for the midfielder’s renewal. While his contract then was until 2029, he earned SEK 22m [€2m] per year.
With the new contract, the 20-year-old has improved his salary and Fotbollskanalen cover the latest.
The Swede now earns £100k per week [€116.5k] after the renewal. This makes his annual salary SEK 68m, which is equivalent to €6.04m. If the earlier report is to be believed, Bergvall has received a 200% raise.

Spurs decided not to sell in summer
Lucas Bergvall had reportedly asked to leave Spurs in the summer and wasn’t short of options. In July, the player kept insisting he wants regular game time and refused to confirm that he wants to leave.
The Swede was of interest to Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, who reportedly made offers.
Tottenham Hotspur didn’t entertain approaches and renewed his contract earlier this month. The player has made five appearances so far this season.
