Athletic Club Bilbao have genuine concerns over Adama Boiro’s situation at West Ham United and it could impact his future with the Championship side.

Last season, the left-back didn’t enjoy a good run with the La Liga side. He played 810 minutes from 14 league matches and made one appearance under new manager, Edin Terzić, this season.

That was against Barcelona on August 27th, and he joined West Ham on loan on deadline day. The London club have also secured a purchase option.

Earlier in the window, the Hammers sold El Hadji Malick Diouf to Brentford and Boiro took his place in the squad. Nuno Espírito Santo has the latter and Oliver Scarles as the two left-backs at his disposal.

Decision to snub others for West Ham not working out

On September 5th, Adama Boiro played 13 minutes in the London club’s 3-0 win over Derby County. That has been his only appearance for the Hammers so far, leading to a few suggestions of the manager overlooking him.

Later that month, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that he struggled with a minor injury. The source also mentioned he rejected several clubs for West Ham United.

Nuno Espírito Santo left him out of the squad for the last four consecutive matches. This has raised concerns at the Basque club and Athletic Club Info covers the latest.

The manager or club haven’t specified whether his omission is because of an injury or a tactical decision. There’s also no confirmation of the Senegalese currently nursing an injury. Therefore, the outlet are refusing to blame Nuno as there’s lack of clarity over the manager not utilising him.

West Ham situation doesn’t please Athletic

The La Liga side were hoping for Adama Boiro to enjoy regular minutes that he didn’t enjoy with them.

Athletic have agreed a purchase option and seem to hope that Boiro will join the London club permanently. However, there’s genuine concern over his restricted role at West Ham United.

The outlet states: ‘The situation is especially worrying because West Ham compete in the Championship, a level where one would expect a player with experience in La Liga and the Champions League to find more consistent playing time.’

The lack of playing time would make a permanent move to the Hammers unlikely and it can impact his value. Although it’s early in the season, his first weeks in England have led to concerns for the Basque club.

Oliver Scarles is the first choice left-back for Nuno Espírito Santo and has played nine matches so far. If he were to stay fit, Boiro will certainly find it difficult to have a prominent role this season.
