Everton had been very close to signing Monaco’s Folarin Balogun in the summer. A deal didn’t go through on deadline day but the player’s future remains very uncertain.

Sport Witness had tracked how the USA international had pushed for a move to Merseyside. The Ligue 1 side and the Toffees had also reached an agreement over a fee and everything suggested a transfer would go through.

At the end, the move fell through, after the striker underwent a medical with Everton. Several versions of the story emerged, with one being that Balogun wasn’t happy with how he was treated by David Moyes’ side during the medical.

Now, more on the ex-Arsenal player’s future has emerged.

Player in line for January exit

TuttoSport report that Juventus are interested in the Monaco man, as they want to take advantage of the mess after the failed Everton deal.

The 25-year-old has played less than 45 minutes in all competitions this season. He has also been excluded from Monaco’s Conference League squad, which suggests that things remain chaotic between the two parties.

The newspaper describe the summer saga as a ‘medical scandal’ but feel ‘things have come to a head’. This means Balogun is likely to leave the Ligue 1 side in the summer, handing Juve a big transfer chance.

Weston McKennie’s presence in Turin could be key, as the midfielder could convince his compatriot on a transfer.

Balogun deserves big move

The American has impressed quite a bit at Monaco, finding the net 13 times in Ligue 1 last season. In the 2022/23 campaign, he scored 21 times for Reims during a loan spell from Arsenal.

The Old Lady could get a cheaper deal than what Everton had agreed. Monaco will be desperate to cut ties with Balogun and this will be an advantage for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

Whether Everton have any plans to return is unclear.
