The Italian and Spanish media continue to carry reports that West Ham United are keen on appointing Julen Lopetegui to replace David Moyes this summer.
On Wednesday, we covered claims from Spain which felt like they’d come from someone close to the manager. It was made clear the former Wolves boss is tempted by the Hammers and that there’s interest there.
Thursday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport addresses this and any idea that it may be a ploy to hurry AC Milan into action for Lopetegui. That’s not the case, according to the famous old Italian newspaper, with competition from West Ham being ‘real’ and not ‘fake news’.
Therefore, it’s declared possible that Lopetegui could travel to London to meet Hammers officials.
However, Gazzetta say AC Milan would be the manager’s first choice, but they would say that and it’s not universally replicated in the Spanish media.
On top of that, the route to the Rossoneri isn’t heating up, with Milan thought to be dithering and Lopetegui therefore left waiting.
The Serie A club like everything about the Spaniard, and there’s even claims of an outline agreement on a salary, but they still have Stefano Pioli in place and don’t appear to be rushing to secure the former Wolves manager.
