As Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez arrived in Argentina for the upcoming rounds of World Cup qualifiers, he had a word with the local media as he was pounced on at the airport.

The player landed in Buenos Aires in what they call the ‘Premier League Plane’, as all those who play in England travelled together.

Speaking to TyC Sports about all those teammates who arrived with him, the Aston Villa star claimed they’ve all been in great shape lately.

“We are good, all the guys who are playing in the Premier League are doing well. We are at a good level, we’re going to enjoy it,” said Martinez.

Martinez arrived in Buenos Aires with Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian Romero, Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez, Nottingham Forest’s Gonzalo Montiel and Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.

They’re now all together fighting to guarantee a place at the 2026 World Cup, and Martinez talked about the challenges they have ahead.

“Every game is difficult in the qualifiers. If we go with this determination, we will do well. We want to achieve more, we’re going to go and win the Copa America.”

Argentina will play Paraguay on the 12th of October and Peru on the 17th. Just like Brazil, they have two wins in two games so far.

Following Aston Villa’s draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend, they reach the break in fifth place in the Premier League.

They’ll be back in action on the 22nd of October against West Ham United, and will hope their players return from international duty in top shape.
