Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is ‘close to fulfilling a long-held dream signing’ by getting Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea.

AS report that Ollie Watkins’ developing move to Saudi Arabia will bring the Chelsea striker close to Aston Villa.

The Spanish newspaper reports from an Atlético Madrid viewpoint. Diego Simeone’s side have long been linked with a move for the 25-year-old.

Indeed, AS explain that Mateu Alemany, Atlético Madrid’s sporting director, travelled to London to discuss a loan deal for the Senegalese striker among other matters.

They were told that Chelsea are not considering a loan. Instead, they are prioritising a permanent sale. That has put Aston Villa as the frontrunner to secure his signing – provided certain conditions are met.

Unai Emery is ‘close to fulfilling a long-held dream signing’ with the striker. He is a huge admirer of the Chelsea man and has ‘coveted’ him for several summers.

While the financial aspect remains a concern – with Chelsea demanding a fee close to €80m – Ollie Watkin’s move to Saudi Arabia could open up the transfer.

The two clubs also have a good working relationship following the deals for Morgan Rogers and Alejandro Garnacho this summer.

Watkins, for his part, is waiting for the green light to depart. AS report that Watkins has agreed personal terms and a deal exceeding €50m is on the cards. Aston Villa will then have sufficient cash to do the deal for Nico Jackson.

Path open for Aston Villa

Atlético Madrid are considering a move, even late in the window. They had been working on the basis of a paid load with an option to buy.

Jackson was keen on the move to Madrid, but Chelsea are reluctant to let him go on loan, particularly as it would take up one of their remaining international loan slots. They intend to use those on other players in the squad.

The Rojiblancos are now prioritising other targets. That leaves the road open for Aston Villa, who could give Emery a transfer wish.
