Burnley are nearing an agreement with Feyenoord for defender Anel Ahmedhodžić, with a deal considered close.
ESPN Netherlands report that the Bosnian defender’s transfer is now in the final stages, with him set to return to England after a year.
The outlet makes no mention of a transfer fee or details on that front at this moment in time. Feyenoord paid €6.9m for the 27-year-old a year ago. He is currently valued at €10m by the likes of Transfermarkt. So, it is easy to imagine that any deal with Burnley will be in that range.
The centre-back was a regular for the Dutch side last season after arriving from Sheffield United. He went on to make 36 appearances for them – so was a regular – as they finished second in the Eredivisie.
Esteve replacement
ESPN, though, report that while he was primarily a starter under Robin van Persie, that was not the case under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Now it appears that he is not a part of his long-term plans. And so, a move to Burnley is now in the final stages.
He moves to the Clarets as a direct replacement for Maxime Esteve, who left Turf Moor to join RB Leipzig earlier in the summer.
Championship experience
The Clarets will be hoping that his experience in the division can help them to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
Ahmedhodžić knows the league well. He made 73 appearances in it with Nottingham Forest (1) and Sheffield United (72) in recent years. He also managed 31 appearances in the Premier League when Sheffield United were promoted in the 2023/24 season.
That kind of experience could prove to be vital as Nicky Hayen’s side look to finish in the top two at least this year. For now, the Clarets are finalising a deal with Feyenoord, with the details of the operations yet to be reported.
