Manchester City’s pursuit of Allan Elias is starting to create a difficult situation for Palmeiras.

There has been movement in Europe on Friday morning, with reports that City have agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old. That comes after their interest became public on Thursday.

The Brazilian side of the story now helps explain why getting the player may be easier than convincing his club.

Globo Esporte reported that Allan’s camp see a move to Manchester City as a “unique opportunity”. Well connected journalist Gustavo Terini backs that up.

That’s significant given Palmeiras’ position. They still have absolutely no desire to lose him midway through their season, as reinforced by UOL.

Manchester City have already sought information about Allan and made their interest known.

There is still no official offer at Palmeiras, according to the latest information from Brazil. Talks remain at an early stage from the club’s perspective.

The player’s side appears considerably more enthusiastic. Globo Esporte say his representatives see City as a special opportunity. Reports in Europe about personal terms being agreed would certainly fit with that.

Palmeiras, meanwhile, consider Allan one of the “untouchable” players in Abel Ferreira’s squad. They want him for the rest of the 2026 campaign and have no plans to sell important players during this window.

That creates an awkward dynamic if City now follow up with a serious bid.

Allan has an obvious reason to push for the transfer. His representatives are also likely to work towards making the opportunity happen. But Palmeiras would be losing a key player against their sporting plans if they eventually give in.

Palmeiras want an ‘irresistible’ offer

Terini says the Brazilian club currently consider Allan “not for sale”. Only an offer described as “out of this world” or “irresistible” would get them talking.

One source at Palmeiras even joked about a possible compromise: “If they really want him that much, buy him now and take him at the end of the year.”

That neatly sums up their problem. Palmeiras are fighting for major trophies and don’t want their season disrupted. Allan has become a key part of Ferreira’s plans.

There is also evidence of how strongly they feel. Globo Esporte recalled Aston Villa considered investing €30m (£26m) earlier in this window. That would have been €25m (£21.7m) guaranteed and another €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses.

Palmeiras refused to negotiate. Allan’s release clause stands at €100m (£86.7m), although that shouldn’t be taken as the price Manchester City will have to pay.

The question now is where Palmeiras’ real breaking point sits. City appear to have a willing player and a camp excited about the move. What they don’t yet have is a willing seller.

If this progresses, that tension is likely to define the negotiations.
