Tottenham Hotspur‘s Pape Matar Sarr is closing in on a move to AS Monaco, despite reaching an agreement with Galatasaray.
On August 20th, we relayed news of the midfielder agreeing to personal terms with the Turkish club for €9m per year salary.
Tottenham have already rejected Galatasaray’s €18m bid and are demanding €25m for Sarr.
Two days ago, Sport Witness covered a report from Turkey explaining that negotiations between these two clubs are in the final stages. The Istanbul club’s new offer is €20m.
Monaco ready to snatch Tottenham man
Galatasaray haven’t found an agreement to sign the former FC Metz man yet. Their delay has allowed the Ligue 1 side to enter the race.
That’s according to Senegal’s Taggat, who took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to cover an important update.
The 23-year-old is now close to returning to Ligue 1, to join Monaco on a season long loan deal. There’s no mention or indication of a purchase clause.
Monaco manager Filipe Luís admires Pape Matar Sarr, and the two have already held talks. This may have been key for the Tottenham Hotspur player to agree on to personal terms with them.
Tottenham’s approval missing
In short, the Senegal international has an agreement in place with both the Ligue 1 side and Galatasaray.
These two clubs have to come to an understanding with Spurs, which hasn’t happened so far.
Taggat are likely to have gathered this information from Pape Matar Sarr’s camp/agent or someone close to them.
Pape Matar Sarr favours Filipe Luís’ side over the Süper Lig winners, but Tottenham won’t want a loan.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side can raise funds through the Senegal international’s sale to the Turkish club. Taking this into account, Sarr’s loan move to AS Monaco won’t be financially beneficial for the north London club.
The midfielder has a contract until 2030, and Transfermarkt now value him at €30m. Last season, he played 2,212 minutes from 37 matches for Spurs.
