Tottenham Hotspur have rejected Galatasaray’s first offer for midfielder Pape Matar Sarr as they demand €25m for the 23-year-old.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that the Turkish side submitted a first offer for Sarr today. That was valued at €18m.

Tottenham rejected that first offer. Talks are now ongoing between the two clubs. Spurs are demanding at least €25m for the midfielder.

The Turkish side are also locked in negotiations with Sarr over personal terms. Unlike with Tottenham, those talks are progressing and Tavolieri reports there is ‘no issue there’.

Tottenham surplus

Pape Matar Sarr has found himself pushed down the pecking order at Tottenham this summer courtesy of their midfield rebuild

The big money arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes means Tottenham now have as many as seven options in central midfield. At least one is likely to leave as they look to balance the squad and their books after spending big this summer.

The 23-year-old could be that man. He initially joined Tottenham for €16.9m in 2021 before returning a year later following a loan at FC Metz.

He’s been a regular for Spurs since then, making 141 appearances in all competitions, with 11 goals and 11 assists to his name.

De Zerbi looks elsehwere

But just four of those – totally 67 minutes, came under Roberto de Zerbi last season. All of those were from the bench and none were worth more than 28 minutes.

That would indicate he’s not a part of the Italian’s plans moving forwards. Now Galatasaray are pushing to try and make a deal happen.

Sport Witness covered a report earlier today explaining the midfielder had already agreed to an €8m per year deal. Now Tavolieri reports that there is no problems on that side of the deal either.

The issue is the €7m difference in valuation between the two sides, although that is not an insurmountable gap by any means.
