Wolves will be without Yerson Mosquera for four to six weeks, with fresh information from Colombia.

That gives a much clearer picture of the defender’s situation after Wolves were considerably less specific about his recovery period.

Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra has the update. Mosquera suffered a grade two ankle sprain and will be unavailable for between four and six weeks.

Four to six weeks out

On an official note, Wolves had only said Mosquera would be sidelined for “a few weeks”. Sierra’s information puts an actual timeframe on that. Four to six weeks is a sizeable absence, particularly at this stage of the season.

The 25-year-old picked up the problem towards the end of Wolves’ game against Blackburn Rovers.

Tests have since established the extent of the damage, specifically a grade two sprain.

Wolves supporters shouldn’t expect Mosquera back particularly quickly.

Injury also affects transfer plans

There’s another important part to Sierra’s update. He says the injury leaves Mosquera’s representatives with “few possibilities” of completing the transfer move they had been planning.

That tells us there was work going on behind the scenes over a potential Wolves exit before the injury.

Sierra doesn’t identify the club involved or explain how advanced those plans were. He does, however, make it clear Mosquera’s representatives had been working towards a move.

A four-to-six-week absence now makes that considerably more difficult. With the transfer window approaching its final stages, there simply isn’t much time for Mosquera to recover and revive those plans.

For Wolves, that means they are likely to keep the Colombian beyond the deadline. They just won’t be able to use him for the next month or so.
