Sunderland have launched a new attempt to sign Marseille’s Igor Paixão before the window closes next Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Sport Witness covered a report from France explaining that Sunderland’s latest bid is over €30m.
The forward, who has repeatedly refused to leave, now opens the door for a late move.
Later that day, we relayed news of the 26-year-old reaching an agreement for personal terms with Sunderland.
Sunderland making concrete progress

Journalist Santi Aouna covered the report of Sunderland’s agreement with Igor Paixão and added talks with Marseille are progressing well.
The Ligue 1 side are going through a difficult phase financially and already sold Mason Greenwood, Facundo Medina and Gerónimo Rulli earlier in this window.
Marseille owner Frank McCourt is looking to sell some of the top earners to raise funds and lower the wage bill. Sunderland can take advantage of this to sign Igor Paixão.
Aouna’s Foot Mercato colleague, Sébastien Denis, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share an important update.
Manager unhappy with Paixão’s sale to Sunderland
Marseille manager Bruno Génésio has already seen key players leave the club in this window.
The Brazilian’s move to the Stadium of Light is ‘imminent’.
Denis adds this is ‘going down very badly with Génésio, who is naturally asking himself a lot of questions, especially since he doesn’t see any sign of a new signing…’
Online, Foot Mercato shares more updates from the journalist, and their title says Génésio ‘can’t digest the Igor Paixão case’.
The coach is clearly unhappy with the club’s failure to sign the desired players, especially after some big sales.
The 26-year-old is now on his way to Sunderland. The manager can’t seem to digest this, considering the club’s difficult situation.
Foot Mercato states: ‘With less than a week to go before the summer transfer window closes, optimism has given way to deep doubts. After helplessly witnessing the successive departures of Gerónimo Rulli, Facundo Medina, and Mason Greenwood, the 59-year-old coach is deeply concerned about the more than likely move of Igor Paixão to Sunderland.‘
Denis says the Sunderland move is ‘imminent’.
