Morato has never been a regular at Nottingham Forest and is inching closer to an exit.
The centre-back played only 21 times in the Premier League during the 2025/26 season. In the campaign before that, he featured for less than 1000 minutes in the top-flight.
Nottingham Forest paid €11m to sign him in 2024, however, it is clear the defender needs a new challenge.
AS Roma have been in the picture to sign him this week and now, the Italian side could soon land the Brazilian.
Deal going in the right direction
Today’s Corriere dello Sport reports the Giallorossi are keen on a defensive signing, especially as Jan Ziolkowski is likely to end up at Monza. That is why a move for Oosterwolde was being pursued but quicker progress has been made for the Nottingham Forest player.
In fact, the Midlands club have already reached a preliminary agreement with Roma. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are happy to sign Morato on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
The 25-year-old is keen on the move and is only awaiting a green light to fly to Italy.
Gasperini is appealed by his ability to play at left-back, which is where he played often at Benfica. The Italian is seeking a versatile profile and believes Morato fits the bill.
ASRomaLive state Nottingham Forest value their defender at €15m and that is what the deal should cost the Giallorossi.
Our take: Relationship between clubs should help
Earlier this summer, Sport Witness covered how Roma and Nottingham Forest had spoken to each other for Ziolkowski. While a deal never went through, it suggests there is a working relationship which will help a move for Morato.
The ex-Benfica player will get some minutes in the Champions League. While he may not be a regular, it will be a chance to make a mark under Gasperini. If it goes well, it will help Oliver Glasner’s side make a capital gain, as he weighs less than €10m on Nottingham Forest’s books.
