Aston Villa have been linked with a move for Matias Soule in recent weeks. A possible deal could now be gathering pace.
Last month, Sport Witness covered claims that Unai Emery is keen on having the Argentine in his side. No formal offers were made and the Villans only appeared to have made initial contact for the attacker.
Things haven’t been spectacular for him in 2026 so far. He’s contributed just a goal and two assists, as a muscle injury held back his progress.
This came after a very promising first half of the campaign, when he contributed to eight Serie A goals.
Largely due to a disappointing year, work is ongoing to engineer his exit from AS Roma. Aston Villa remain in the picture and could appeal to the versatile attacker.
Player keen on England move
Gazzetta dello Sport today note that Soule’s agent Martin Guastadisegno was at Roma’s training ground yesterday. He is likely to have spoken about the Argentine’s future and wanted to understand if any clubs have stepped forward for him.
So far, no suitors have made formal offers. But there is hope for Aston Villa.
Soule has privately spoken to many at Trigoria about moving to England. He is now keen on a Premier League transfer and he sees that as a real step up for his career.
He would be particularly attractedby a move to Aston Villa. Their Champions League status will help, as another suitor in Bournemouth won’t offer that.
Roma want €40m to part ways with the 23-year-old. Due to FFP reasons, they have to execute sales by the end of June. Capital gain earned from Soule’s sale will go a long way in helping them.
Intermediaries at work
Roma’s Champions League qualification has not lightened the financial burden on them. That is why they need sales and intermediaries appear to be at work to find clubs for their highest-valued players.
This is why Arsenal have stepped forward for Manu Kone. Evan Ndicka has also attracted interest from clubs in England.
Roma will likely sell Soule to Aston Villa, if the right offer arrives.
