Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa and Brighton could all have a chance to sign Gabriel Sara in January. The Brazilian midfielder is reportedly preparing to leave Galatasaray, with the Turkish club now willing to discuss a sale.

That’s quite a change. Galatasaray weren’t interested in letting the 27-year-old go during the summer, despite attention from elsewhere. Now, with the next transfer window approaching, they’ve apparently softened their stance.

And there’s no shortage of English interest. All four Premier League clubs have been named as potential destinations, although some have been following Sara for considerably longer than others.

Galatasaray open the door to Premier League move

Brazilian outlets Terra and RTI Esporte have both reported that Sara indeed will leave Galatasaray in the next transfer window.

RTI Esporte specifically name Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa and Brighton as clubs who have already expressed an interest in the former Norwich City midfielder.

The report says Galatasaray are now prepared to negotiate offers starting at €40m. However, it also refers to claims from the Turkish press that €35m could be enough to get a deal done.

It’s a sizeable fee, but Sara is hardly an unknown quantity in England. He spent two years at Norwich before moving to Istanbul in 2024, having established himself as one of the Championship’s standout midfielders.

He’s since continued his development in Turkey, attracting attention from several major European leagues.

Napoli and Roma are also in the picture. According to RTI Esporte, both Italian clubs have been in regular contact with his representatives to keep track of the situation.

The difference this time is that Galatasaray appear ready to listen. RTI Esporte say their asking price is €40m (£33.3m), although Turkish reports suggest €35m (£29.2m) might do the trick. That could give the interested clubs something concrete to work with in January.

Newcastle and Everton have already made moves

Gabriel Sara

Newcastle and Everton have been linked with Sara for some time, so neither club’s appearance on the latest list comes as much of a surprise. Aston Villa also have their own history here.

Brighton complete the latest English quartet, although there’s less to go on regarding how far their interest has progressed.

Leeds United and Sunderland have also been mentioned as possible destinations in the past. Neither appears among the four clubs named in the latest Brazilian report though.

So a few weeks ago, the Turkish reports suggested Sara was practically untouchable. Now the Brazilian press say a departure is expected, and there’s even a price being discussed.

That’s encouraging for Newcastle, Everton, Villa and Brighton. Of course, there’s still a fair distance between showing interest and actually paying what Galatasaray want.
