Everton have begun efforts to sign Gabriel Sara from Galatasaray in January, rivalling Newcastle United for his signature.

The 27-year-old has long been linked with a move back to England after impressing for Galatasaray since joining them for €18m from Norwich City in 2024.

He’s been a key player for the Turkish side since, making 94 appearances in total, scoring 10 goals and registering 17 assists. That’s often put him on the Premier League’s radar, although as yet no club has moved seriously to bring him back to England.

That could be about to change, as Everton and Newcastle are now in the picture ahead of the January transfer window.

Takvim, via Milliyet, report that interest in the Brazilian is growing and is the Premier League duo who are showing the most.

Newcastle’s long interest

They first state that Newcastle wanted to sign the midfielder in the summer, but that did not materialise.

The Magpies, of course, ended up rebuilding their midfield following the departures of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.

Nico Gonzalez, Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur arrived to replace those two, but Takvim insist that Sara was also on their list of targets. Now they are expected to submit a new offer for him in January.

There is no mention of the nature of their potential offer. Nor is there any indication of what they were willing to spend in January either. Just that the interest is there.

Everton competition

Now they face potential competition from Everton, though. Takvim also report that they have begun efforts to sign the Brazilian.

In fact, their information is that Everton’s management have started enquiring about the costs involved through agents. They are also expected to submit an official offer during the January transfer window.

Again, there is no mention of the nature of that potential bid. But it is pointed out that Sara is valued at €27m by the likes of Transfermarkt.

He is also considered as ‘indispensable’ by manager Okan Buruk. So, the Turkish side are not going to be selling on the cheap. They don’t’ have to anyway, as the midfielder is tied to a deal until 2029.

But the insistence is that Everton and Newcastle are in the picture, readying moves ahead of January.
