Arsenal have previously been in the picture to sign Inter Milan’s Francesco Pio Esposito. Further background about the striker has now become clear.
The 2025/26 campaign saw the Italian progress at Inter. After a loan at Spezia where he thrived, Esposito returned to the Nerazzurri, becoming a very reliable squad player for them.
He found the net ten times in all competitions, also adding six assists. Esposito has now also become a star for the Azzurri, scoring seven goals already.
This convinced Inter to tie him down to a new deal, especially as interest from Arsenal had grown. Today’s print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport goes into the details.
Gunners made enquiries
Inter handing a new deal to the 21-year-old is a sign that they have a long-term plan for Esposito. They also know it isn’t easy to find players of his ilk in the market and they want to hold on to him.
He already has two goals in Serie A but he will get more game time, as games are about to pile up.
Inter believe Esposito’s value has grown in an ‘unbelievable’ way. Arsenal made enquiries during the winter transfer window and were assessing a move.
At that point, Inter CEO Beppe Marotta clarified that not even €100m will be enough to sign the talent.
The Italian champions feel that this is justified when Sandro Tonali joined Tottenham for €100m and Atalanta earned around €80m from Rasmus Hojlund’s move to Manchester United.
Our take: Player’s value will only grow
Esposito will continue to score more goals for club and country. And at Inter, he will soon become a first-choice, especially if Marcus Thuram moves on in the near future.
His prominence will only grow, which will take his valuation to new heights.
This means Arsenal’s chances at a move will be slipping away. Unless they spend a significant package, a deal will be impossible, even if Esposito could be an able replacement for Viktor Gyokeres.
