Newcastle United attempted to sign Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi late in the summer. A move didn’t go through because of the Italian club’s stance at that. Inter believed Frattesi would have a big role this season, which hasn’t turned out to be the case.

The Magpies have now been backed to sign the midfielder in January. So far this season, he’s played less than 200 minutes in Serie A.

InterLive look at Frattesi’s situation and note that his time at Inter has ‘reached the end credits’.

His exit from the San Siro is increasingly likely in January. There is interest from AS Roma but the report believes that Newcastle United are the ‘most viable option’ for the midfielder.

The 26-year-old would be attracted by a switch to the Premier League, where other clubs are also monitoring his situation.

Newcastle United, because of their previous interest, would be in an advantageous position. Frattesi is keen on playing more regularly at club level, which is partly because he wants to play for Italy at the World Cup and prove himself to Rino Gattuso.

Picking up some experience of playing with Sandro Tonali wouldn’t be harmful.
