Stade de Reims’ Directeur Général Mathieu Lacour isn’t pleased with the criticism aimed towards Leicester City’s Wout Faes.
Lacour was a guest on En Off, where he discussed the Leicester City player, and Walfoot have relayed his comments.
The Directeur Général knows the centre-back well as he was in charge when the French club signed him from KV Oostende in January 2020.
His performances for Stade de Reims convinced Leicester City to bet on the defender in September 2022.
According to the French club official, his former player can become a high-level player with appropriate support and guidance.
“We saw with Wout that if he developed his game, he could become a top-level player. And for me, he has become a top-level player. We shouldn’t overlook the fact that he’s played in the Premier League and for De Rode Duivels, and not just in one match,” he said.
The Belgium international has been a regular for the Foxes since he arrived at the King Power Stadium. He was also a regular for his country until June.
His performances for Leicester City, especially in recent months, have been subject to criticism. The 27-year-old has lost his place in the national team for the past three international breaks.
Lacour has sent a message to his critics that what the player has achieved so far isn’t a small feat.
“There’s a tendency to downplay things, to trivialise what he’s done,” Lacour explained.
“What Wout has accomplished is no small feat. I think the experience he gained in defence alongside Yunis Abdelhamid and Thomas Foket raised his game, before he himself raised the level.”
Faes played 13 Championship matches this season.
