Newcastle United

Newcastle United may need to step up their efforts for AC Milan’s Christopher Nkunku, with RB Leipzig leading the race for him.

Milan News report that the German side have ‘moved ahead’ of Newcastle for the Frenchman at this moment in time.

Sport Witness covered a report this week explaining that Newcastle had expressed an interest in Nkunku.

The forward has been invited to leave the Italian side this summer. That report indicated Newcastle could find themselves in a three-way battle for the 28-year-old’s signature.

Leipzig in front

Milan News now report that they’ve received ‘confirmations’ that Leipzig hold a ‘clear advantage’ over Newcastle in the pursuit for Christopher Nkunku.

They state that the Frenchman can leave after Ruben Amorim put him on the list of players who aren’t part of his plans. He has failed to impress the Portuguese coach during pre-season, so Milan have put him on the market.

While it appeared that Newcastle had overtaken Leipzig in the last few days, the situation has now flipped. The Bundesliga side are no in pole position.

Nkunku decision

The move would represent a return for Christopher Nkunku. He made nis name at the German club after playing for them from 2019 to 2023. He went on to make 172 appearances for them, scoring 70 goals and registering 56 assists.

Injury issues have limited his impact on the pitch since then, with spells at Chelsea and now Milan failing to get his career back on track. Now it appears that a return to Leipzig could be on the cards to try and revive himself.

Newcastle can always change that, of course. They have money to spend this summer reshaping their squad and could probably out compete Leipzig on that front should they wish.

Ultimately, though, it may depend on what Nkunku wants. And for now, Milan News insist that Leipzig are at the front of the queue.
