Newcastle United are now engaged in a three-way battle to sign Christopher Nkunku from AC Milan.
Journalist Santi Aouna reports that Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle and RB Leipzig are all ahead of the other clubs to date.
Three-way battle
According to the journalist, the Frenchman has now turned down potential moves to Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, further pushing the other clubs to the front of the pack.
Christopher Nkunku has been encouraged to leave AC Milan this summer as he is now longer a part of their plans.
Newcastle United have quickly been pushed to the front of the queue for the forward. Sport Witness covered a report explaining that the Magpies, and Aston Villa, had a potential €35m battle for him on their hands.
Now Aouna reports that the Magpies are at the front of the queue for the 28-year-old. A three-way battle is now on the cards between Borussia Dortmund, Leipzig and Newcastle. So, it’s a choice of the Premier League or the Bundesliga for Nkunku.
Premier League misery
Whether he would want to return to England, remains to be seen. He hardly had the best time with Chelsea, where he managed just 18 goals and five assists in 62 games.
Of course, that was largely due to the knee injury which left him out for 110 days at Stamford Bridge. Indeed, his tile in London was littered with injuries. That will only have left him with negative memories of his time in England and the Premier League.
A return to Germany, where he previously shined at Leipzig – 70 goals and 56 assists in 172 games – might be more palatable. In fact, a return to Leipzig could be very tempting overall.
That’s for Newcastle to work out. For now, it appears they’re at the front of the queue for the Frenchman, who has three options on the table.
