Over the past few weeks, the Spanish media have covered Real Madrid’s interest in Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté. They aren’t ruling out a move this summer even though their aim has been to sign him for free when his contract expires in 2026.

The defender is said to not want to renew and has asked the Reds to negotiate with Real Madrid this summer. Mundo Deportivo earlier reported Liverpool want €50m, while the La Liga club don’t want to offer more than €30m.

On July 14th, AS reported Liverpool have no plans to part ways with the centre-back in this window. They also said Arne Slot’s side want to try and negotiate his renewal and this is a risk, considering they could lose the 26-year-old as a free agent next summer.

Although the France international’s desire is to join Real Madrid, Liverpool haven’t given up on securing his long-term future. That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report the Premier League winners have offered him an improved contract.

They make no mention of the details of the terms proposed or Konaté’s stance. Journalist Sacha Tavolieri took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to back up Foot Mercato’s claim and share more details.

Liverpool have offered the defender a contract until 2029 with a significant raise in salary.

According to Tavolieri, the former RB Leipzig man is ‘considering options’, after opening the door to Real Madrid recently.

This indicates Konaté may consider Liverpool’s renewal offer and if that’s the case, their decision to take risk could pay off.
