On July 17th, Marca reported Nottingham Forest have resumed talks with RCD Mallorca for Pablo Maffeo, after initially putting the operation on hold.
Three days ago, the same outlet stated the Reds made an improved bid of €5m plus €1.5m bonuses at the weekend. This didn’t satisfy the La Liga club’s sporting director, Pablo Ortells, who is said to have lowered his demand from €10m to €8m.
A day later, AS reported this is a crucial week for Nottingham Forest to find an agreement with Mallorca. They also said the right-back is determined to join the Premier League club this summer.
According to a fresh report from Marca, Nuno Espírito Santo’s side have now ‘broken off negotiations’ with Mallorca to sign the 28-year-old. That’s because Ortells is refusing to lower the price below €8m and the English club are unwilling to meet his request.
Nottingham Forest’s offer stands at around €6.5m including bonuses, which is €1.5m short of the fee requested by Mallorca. The difference, although relatively small, ‘significantly complicates’ the operation.
Maffeo has been keen on moving to England and Nottingham Forest’s stance may simply be part of the transfer game.
