Beto joined Fiorentina from Everton in the summer transfer window, and he’s settling into his new Italian life.
La Viola brought him in as a replacement for Moise Kean, who joined Como. Since arriving, Beto has made one start for Fiorentina and came off the bench in their 1-1 draw against Fiorentina.
Mateo Pellegrino has been Paolo Vanoli’s first-choice, as the Argentine has been among the goals. That is also why the Guinea-Bissau international wasn’t handed a start in the Coppa Italia against Pisa.
Player told to lose weight
Former sporting director Pino Vitale has spoken to RTV38 about the Fiorentina’s striker situation this week.
He noted that it is too easy to make judgements about the team. Regardless, he went on to speak about the ex-Everton player being a bit overweight.
Vitale said – via ViolaNews: “From the next four games, we’ll be able to better understand the team’s real objectives. Beto? I saw him at Everton too. He’s physically too big, a few pounds less wouldn’t hurt him.”
Vitale also noted that Pellegrino starting regularly isn’t helping the former Udinese man.
“The ongoing conflict with Pellegrino risks benefiting neither of us.”
Patience needed for striker
Fiorentina haven’t exactly had a peaceful few weeks. Fabio Grosso was sacked three games into his tenure and Paolo Vanoli returned after having left months earlier.
That is why the instability wouldn’t have helped Beto and patience is needed. Besides, it is good he has somewhat stayed away from the chaos at the club. That might only help him in the longer run.
The fact that Serie A is Beto’s old hunting ground will only help him. It will make sure he could soon witness a revival after the Everton spell, once he starts playing regularly.
He just needs to stay away from all that wonderful food in Florence.
