Arsenal continue to maintain interest in Atlético Madrid’s Julián Alvarez amid his desire to join Barcelona.
The striker wants to leave, and the Premier League winners have been courting him for months.
Earlier this week, Sport Witness relayed news of Mikel Arteta calling again to convince him to join Arsenal.
Atlético want to sell to Arsenal
The La Liga side have maintained a firm stance of not letting him leave, especially after a public spat with Barcelona.
Friday’s print edition of Mundo Deportivo states Diego Simeone’s side have softened their stance and are ready to sell him to Arsenal.
The 26-year-old’s desire to leave has made his situation untenable. Therefore, his club have ‘finally agreed to enter negotiations’ with the north London club.
Atlético Madrid don’t have sufficient time to find a quality replacement and there’s belief Arsenal can solve their problem.
Viktor Gyökeres has offered himself to several clubs and Simone would accept his signing. The Gunners can include the Swede as part of the deal for the former Manchester City man.
However, Julián Alvarez is refusing to accept a move to the Emirates. For now, he has no plans of returning to England after a spell at the Etihad between 2022 and 2024.
Arsenal can offer escape route
Sport have a report on the frontman, titled: ‘Atlético push Julián to Arsenal’.
Within the report, the newspaper states: ‘Julián Álvarez’s future will be decided in the coming hours, and all signs point to England.’
Los Rojiblancos want to cut ties with the South American and see Arsenal as the feasible option.
The Gunners are offering €80m plus Viktor Gyökeres and offer the Argentine a gross salary of €25m per year.
The latter can double his salary at the Emirates and have a key role under Mikel Arteta.
This is a beneficial deal for both clubs. Arsenal can sign a quality striker, and the Madrid club will get rid of an unhappy player and get money plus Viktor Gyökeres.
Álvarez’s move to Arsenal depends on his final approval, which hasn’t arrived yet.
Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid sporting director Mateu Alemany has travelled to London to negotiate Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson’s signing. It’s not ruled out for him to hold talks with Arsenal about Álvarez.
