Aston Villa and Atlético Madrid are in for a battle to sign Chelsea‘s Nicolas Jackson this summer.

Al-Hilal are keen on signing Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. Earlier this week, we relayed news the striker has agreed on to personal terms with the Saudi Arabian club.

The uncertainty around Watkins has seen the Premier League side look for a new striker. This has seen them focus on the Chelsea player.

Atlético threat for Aston Villa

Friday’s print edition of Mundo Deportivo covers Aston Villa’s interest in Nicolas Jackson when reporting the latest on the La Liga side.

Diego Simeone has requested for at least one striker and needs two if Julián Álvarez were to leave. This is where the Chelsea frontman comes into the picture, who is not part of Xabi Alonso’s core plans.

The Spanish club are also working on strengthening other positions. Therefore, their plan is to sign the Senegal international on loan. Atlético Madrid sporting director Mateu Alemany made a trip to London sign him.

Jackson previously had a spell at Villarreal, where he played under Unai Emery. He scored three goals and contributed three assists from 27 matches under the Spaniard.

He’s open to returning to Spain and especially play under Simeone’s orders. The Madrid club have to be wary of the Villans as Mundo states Chelsea have received Aston Villa’s interest.

Another newspaper, AS, are also reporting of the Europa League winners’ desire to sign the frontman.

On Thursday, Los Rojiblancos presented new signing Cristian Romero to the media.

Mateu Alemany wasn’t present because he was in London to discuss Nicolas Jackson signing with Chelsea.

Aston Villa have also shown interest and are ‘in negotiations’ to secure the 25-year-old’s services.

Atlético Madrid’s entering the race can be a concern for the Villans, especially since he favours a move to La Liga.

AS end their report by stating: ‘Chelsea are also considering offers to buy him before another loan for the Senegalese player. “Nothing will happen until the deadline,” Chelsea sources explain. The Blues prefer to loan him to a Premier League team because they only have two international loan slots remaining. But Jackson would put Atlético in pole position.’
