Wolves defender Santiago Gimenez landed in Mexico on Saturday morning to finalise his move to finalise his move to Club América.
Record report that the Uruguayan landed in Mexico City early Saturday morning ahead of finalising his loan move from Wolves.
Sport Witness had already reported exclusive information on the potential deal earlier this week.
They state that the defender travelled directly from London to the Mexican capital on a flight lasting just over 10 hours. There had been drama on that front as a thunderstorm ended up forcing several airlines to diver their flights.
Thus, the Wolves man ended up initially landing in Cancún. He then waited a couple of hours before his flight then headed to Mexico City, where he finally left the airport around 1:30am.
Good spirits
The newspaper reported that he arrived in good spirits, nonetheless. While in the airport he put on an América jacket, posed with the shirt and shared his first comments to those waiting.
“I’m very happy to be here,” he said.
“I’ve spoken a lot with Brian and Raúl about the club; they told me how big it is, and that I should enjoy the experience and live up to the club’s standards.
“You have to seize opportunities like this. A team as big as América coming calling isn’t something that happens every day.”
Medical on Saturday
The newspaper adds that the defender underwent a medical on Saturday morning. He was then due to officially sign a one-year loan deal with the Mexican side.
There is no mention of a purchase clause but reports elsewhere have stated that an $8m clause is part of the deal.
That would see Wolves recover the majority of the €12m that they paid to sign the 27-year-old from Girona in 2023.
The move brings an end to a three-year stay in which he made 85 appearances in all competitions at Molineux following his move from Spain.
