Wolves have found somewhere for Pedro Lima to get some football, with the right-back heading back to Brazil to join São Paulo.
The 20-year-old is initially moving on loan until December. There’s no purchase option, so Wolves are keeping control of his longer-term future.
ESPN Brazil say Pedro Lima has already been pre-registered in the Brazilian FA’s transfer systems.
There is, however, a route for him to stay in Brazil for longer. Globo Esporte claim appearance-related bonuses can extend the loan until May 2027. Wolves will also continue paying 60% of Pedro Lima’s wages during the spell.
The clubs already have an agreement, although the contract still needs to be signed.
Wolves and São Paulo must also complete the required procedures through FIFA’s Transfer Matching System. That’s quite important given Brazil’s transfer window closes today. So there isn’t much time to get everything sorted.
São Paulo finally make the Brazil return happen
Pedro Lima has actually been linked with a return to Brazil for a while. Flamengo, Atlético Mineiro and Palmeiras have all been mentioned as possible destinations in recent months. Nothing came of any of those possibilities.
São Paulo have now got there, and ESPN say they won’t pay any loan fee for the youngster – just 40% of his wages. So Wolves appear happy to take a financial hit if it means their man gets regular football.
Pedro Lima has lost space following Kieran Trippier’s arrival at Molineux, according to Globo Esporte. He has played twice this year, including an appearance in the Championship and another in the League Cup. Across his time at Wolves since 2025, the Brazilian has made only 19 appearances.
His previous loan at Porto didn’t really fix the minutes problem either. He struggled to play regularly in Portugal and eventually got recalled, so Wolves are now trying a different route.
The move has also been helped along by São Paulo’s injury problems at right-back, with their two main options sidelined for at least two months. That should give Pedro Lima a better shot at the regular football Wolves want for him.
The ‘new Cafu’ heads home
There’s quite a contrast between this situation and the excitement around Pedro Lima when he first appeared at Sport Recife.
He came through very quickly between 2023 and 2024. Strong performances for Sport and Brazil’s youth teams soon got European clubs watching. The hype went pretty far.
Spanish newspaper AS even called him the “new Cafu” while covering the interest around him. Wolves eventually moved quickly to sign him, taking one of Brazil’s most highly rated young full-backs to England.
Things haven’t really taken off since. So going back home is now the next attempt to get things moving again. And if he plays enough, his stay can run until May rather than ending in December.
In the end, São Paulo get a talented young right-back on the cheap. And Wolves keep hold of Lima while hoping the move finally allows him to develop as expected.
