Arsenal star Martin Ødegaard has admitted last season was a difficult one for him, but he’s now in a much better place.
VG have an interview with the 27-year-old today. He insists he has now come through the dark and is now very happy at the Emirates.
Impressive numbers
The midfielder has enjoyed a flying start to the season – and Arsenal’s title defence – with this week seeking him as the match winner in the Champions League clash against Napoli.
That was his fourth goal of the season in five games. It means he’s already quadrupled his tally – one goal – from last season. He appears to be on course for a big season as Arsenal look to make it back-to-back Premier League titles for the first time in their history.
He’s certainly feeling positive after a difficult season last year, particularly in terms of injuries.
“Last season, I had many tough moments with injuries. It was tough for me. I’m so happy to be on the pitch and to feel good and fit,” he said.
“There were several setbacks, and I played without feeling one hundred percent, but now I feel really good. I went into the World Cup feeling good, had a really good tournament, and carried that momentum into this season.”
Confidence of champions
He also feels that he and Arsenal are feeling a different kind of confidence now that they’re champions.
“I think so. We feel different, and we feel stronger. You have to learn from what you experience. Winning the Premier League gives you a different kind of confidence,” he added.
Now, the focus returns to the Premier League and an away trip to Sunderland on Saturday evening. Another goal in that game and the feeling that a new look Martin Ødegaard is here will only grow. He already sees the positives after a flying start to the new campaign.
