Another club has joined the queue for Chelsea’s Deivid Washington, with Marseille now making enquiries about a possible move for the Brazilian.
There’s been plenty of interest in the 21-year-old over the past few days, and Foot Mercato now add the French club to the list.
Marseille are looking for another centre-forward and have recently asked about Deivid Washington. Their finances are a little tight this summer, so they’re having to be careful about how they approach the market.
There’s no offer from them yet. What makes this one particularly interesting, though, is that the player appears keen enough to have done some homework of his own.
Foot Mercato say Deivid Washington has been asking former Brazilian Marseille players about the club. That’s taken as a sign that the possibility of playing for them in Ligue 1 appeals to him.
Another one for Chelsea to consider
Marseille are arriving in an increasingly crowded race. Foot Mercato say Sevilla and Strasbourg are also following Deivid Washington and have both put offers forward.
Strasbourg, of course, have an obvious advantage here. They’re controlled by BlueCo, just like Chelsea, and have effectively operated as a satellite club for the Blues in recent years.
Deivid Washington nearly did exactly that two years ago. His move to Strasbourg was cancelled at the last minute, but the French side are now back for another go.
Marseille have some catching up to do, then. For now, they’ve only asked about the conditions of a deal.
Plenty of interest, but Chelsea need the right deal
It’s becoming pretty clear that finding an interested club isn’t Chelsea’s problem. Brazilian side Vasco da Gama are trying to take Deivid Washington on loan without a fee and with an option to buy.
They’ve asked Bertolucci Sports, who represent the striker, to see whether Chelsea will accept that formula.
Atlético Mineiro also came close recently. In that case, Chelsea wanted a loan with an obligation to buy, and the proposed move didn’t go ahead.
Now Sevilla and Strasbourg have offers in, while Marseille have joined the queue.
The player’s position is pretty simple too. We covered recently that Deivid Washington just wants senior minutes. He’s open to staying in Europe or returning to Brazil, and isn’t ruling out either a loan or permanent transfer.
Foot Mercato say he’s made three senior appearances for Chelsea, totalling only 11 minutes. So three years on, Deivid clearly needs somewhere he can actually play. Chelsea now have several clubs knocking on the door.
Marseille are simply the latest to get in line – and the fact the striker is already asking around about them suggests they’re one he’d be happy to consider.
