Leeds United’s Lucas Perri has been close to joining Torino for many weeks now. The deal has faced ups and downs and there is a chance it could now be off.
Sport Witness have covered how the Italian blamed the Whites for creating an auction for the Brazilian. This led to Marseille joining the race for the keeper, forcing Torino to up their offer for the 28-year-old.
This was then accepted by Leeds United, whose approach clearly worked out. It looked like things were going in the right direction, as the player has been keen on the transfer too.
There is a hold-up in the move once again.
Torino have second thoughts
Torino outlet TifoGranata look at the situation in detail, noting that the deal is becoming a ‘headache’ for all parties.
Perri has been on the verge of joining Torino twice but his medical has never gone through.
The outlet believe Il Toro and Leeds United did reach an agreement over an initial loan with the option to buy for €14m. Now, it is the Italian club who have stopped short instead of having the player over for a medical.
The player’s agents arrived in Italy and are still there, however, the move hasn’t been finalised.
Ignazio Abate’s side are now awaiting a sale to sign Perri. Their first-choice Franco Israel is currently injured and apart from him, they have three young keepers in the squad. They have to part ways with at least one to bring in the Leeds United player.
19-year-old Diego Mascardi has impressed in pre-season too. There is a chance he could be handed the keys to the first-choice keeper role next season.
Our take: Whites were getting a good deal
Torino were offering Leeds United a package worth €15m. This could’ve helped Daniel Farke’s side make a capital gain, as they paid around €16m to sign the player permanently last summer.
Marseille have financial problems at their end and it is easy to doubt if they can meet a valuation of this kind.
So all things considered, Leeds United should hope more suitors step forward for the keeper soon.
