Last week we covered reports linking Ajax’s Mitchell Dijks with a move to Norwich City.
According to a latest claim from Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Dijks is now completing his loan move to the Championship club, after initially being reluctant to join them.
Dijks’s agent, Dick van Burik, has confirmed the deal to De Telegraaf, and also revealed Norwich will have the option to make it permanent should they get promoted to the Premier League next season.
He said: “Norwich City didn’t let him go. Dijks doubted initially, because he doesn’t want to play the next season in the second level. Now he goes to do everything with Norwich. And if that works, the club can buy him.”
Burik also revealed it was Norwich City boss Alex Neil who wanted the defender so much he wasn’t prepared to take no for answer, and managed persuade the player in the end.He added: “Alex Neil, the trainer wanted him at all costs and Mitchell finally crossed the line.”
The 23-year-old is primarily a left back, but can also play at centre back. He hasn’t been playing regularly for Ajax this season, but was still initially reluctant to drop down to the second level of English football, not having confidence that Norwich are on the brink of promotion.
