De Telegraaf report on Wednesday afternoon that Norwich City are in talks to sign Mitchell Dijks from Eredivisie side Ajax.

The Dutch newspaper explain that Newcastle United and Leicester City have also been interested in the player, believing he has the right qualities to succeed in English football.

The 23 year old is a left footed central defender who can also play at left back, his Ajax contract runs until June 2018, putting the club under at least a little pressure to sell.

De Telegraaf say Ajax have confirmed the talks with Norwich, which would suggest things are at an advanced stage. Dijks may prefer the Norwich option, because he’d stand a better chance of imposing himself than at Newcastle or Leicester.

Dijks has been in and out of the Ajax side this season, and it’s easy to assume that Rafael Benitez and Claudio Ranieri will have seen the player as a back-up option or one for the future.

For Norwich City, Dijks will hope to breakthrough to the team quickly.
