Crystal Palace midfielder Max Meyer has hinted he is set for a long-term stay at the club, insisting he is an ‘important part’ of their plans.
Meyer joined the Eagles on a free transfer in 2018 after being released by German club Schalke.
He has endured something of an indifferent time at the club since then, failing to nail down a regular first-team place but also proving a useful asset for Roy Hodgson.
His situation has been regularly covered in Germany, and recent reports indicated he could be on the move this summer after managing less than 1000 minutes of football for Crystal Palace this season.
However, he insists that is all nonsense, and he has had no indication from those in charge at Selhurst Park that they want rid of him.
“It’s in the German media, and I’m not interested in that,” he told Sport 1.
“Everything changes in football every day, but I’m totally solid in the club, and I’m also well received by the fans and the team.
“Of course, I haven’t played every game, but I’m an important part of the club. If that were not the case, those responsible would have said long ago that I should go.”
Meyer’s move to Palace two summers ago was something of a surprising one, with a player of his status enjoying plenty of offers once he become available.
He instead chose the move to London with the Eagles, adding some much-needed creativity in the middle of the park to their squad.
And when questioned why he chose Crystal Palace above the others, he says it was the best opportunity for him to get to the Premier League.
“That is the typical German way of thinking that the club is considered inconspicuous,” he added when asked about his ‘surprising’ choice.
“If the journalists worked here for a year and a half and saw the quality in the team and in the league, they would think differently.
“Of course, you dream of big clubs like Liverpool FC or Manchester United in the Premier League, but Crystal Palace was the best opportunity to switch to this league.
“Since I have been there, I have played around 50 games in the best league in the world, which is not a matter of course. And I have developed further.”
