Southampton coach Rubén Sellés has moved to allay fears midfielder Carlos Alcaraz is set for a period on the sidelines, insisting the injury picked up in the win over Leicester is not a serious one.

Alcaraz has quickly established himself as a key player for Southampton since arriving from Racing Cub in a €13.65m deal in January.

He helped his side to a crucial win over Leicester at the weekend, bagging the only goal of the game to help the Saints to all three points.

He started but did not finish that game, though, limping off in the 50th minute after seemingly injuring while attempting a knee slide as part of his goal celebrations.

He was sent for a scan after the game amid concerns he could be set for a lengthy lay off, with Sellés later admitting they were hopeful that the injury would not be a big or lengthy one.

The Southampton boss has now reiterated those comments, even hinting that Alcaraz could play through the pain to help the Saints cause.

“It’s nothing more than for three or four days,” he told Cadena SER.

“Although he has a small sprain in his knee, he will be able to continue competing. It shouldn’t be anything serious.”
