Given his full Manchester United debut by Erik ten Hag against Arsenal, Antony didn’t take long to have the desired impact.

The Brazilian, bought for around €100m from Ajax, scored the opener following a good through ball from Marcus Rashford, and lasted until the 58th minute.

It was a good first appearance for the new Manchester United player, whom many felt had been transferred for a fee far beyond what he was worth.

That, however, is not the view of ex-Arsenal and Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri, now a pundit for Canal+ in France.

Relayed by MaxiFoot, he said: “I saw him last year in the Champions League. He’s one of my darlings. I really like the player. He’s very technical, always taking risks. I heard a lot that they overpaid for him and that he’s a panic buy. For me, that’s not the case.

“He’s a talented player and he’s back with a manager he knows well. When you see that Ousmane Dembélé was bought for €120m by Barcelona when he’d barely blown up at Rennes and Dortmund, I find that normal. It’s the price and value of players nowadays. That’s how it is.”

Prior to signing for Manchester United, Antony had played 82 times for Ajax, during which he scored 24 goals and assisted another 22.

That output is exactly why Ten Hag wanted the Brazilian at Old Trafford, where he felt a player of his ilk was needed to add more threat to the Red Devils’ attack.

It appears, at least after one game, that he was right. Whether he will be in the long run, however, remains to be seen.
