It seems Manchester City didn’t keep all of the €12.3m that Southampton paid for the signing of Romeo Lavia this summer.

As today reported by Belgian outlet DH, the midfielder’s former club Anderlecht managed to get a share from the deal, which will undoubtedly really help their finances.

When selling the player to Manchester City back in 2020, the club from Brussels negotiated to keep a percentage of any future resale.

According to DH’s sources, that was a ‘nice sum’ of between 10% and 15%, meaning that with Southampton paying €12.3m for the transfer, Anderlecht are receiving a fee in between €1.2m and €1.8m.

Despite Manchester City’s effort to sign Lavia from the Belgian side’s academy, Pep Guardiola didn’t really make much use of him.

The player made many appearances for the club’s youth squads, but only two for the first team.

With Southampton signing him this summer, they seem to have more trust in his potential.

He had started their first five games in the Premier League, but despite scoring a goal against Chelsea, he ended up getting injured in that fixture, forcing him to miss the weekend’s clash against Wolves.
