Newcastle United appear set for battle with Serie A clubs this summer, and much of the fight could revolve around players from Lille.

The Magpies tried repeatedly to sign Sven Botman during the winter market, but couldn’t reach an agreement with Lille. Since then, AC Milan have been increasingly linked with the defender and there’s been some cockiness in the Italian media over the Rossoneri’s chances.

As far as many see it, the Dutchman has already chosen Milan and Newcastle have therefore been snubbed, but we explained yesterday why that stance just doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Newcastle could also face an Italian battle for Renato Sanches.

TuttoJuve are reporting Juventus interest in the midfielder, and they present the competition the Turin club will be up against. Newcastle United are named among the Portugal international’s suitors, and it’s yet again pointed out that reaching an agreement with Lille is the trigger for any of the clubs.

Given the new finances at Eddie Howe’s side, they look well placed in the battle. Securing both Lille players would certainly be an impressive swoop for the Premier League club.
